DMB Meets the Press Tonight - Ransford Gyampo writes

DMB mounts the platform to engage the media today. In the midst of Ghana’s current economic misery and hardships imposed on the people, this in my honest view, is a bold and commendable initiative. But while what he says must be listened to with rapt attention, the focus must also be on the caliber of media practitioners selected for the event and the quality of questions they would pose.

Thought provoking and probing questions would be good for Ghana and would also help in dealing with the legitimacy and credibility deficits some media practitioners currently face. Also, such questions if properly handled may be helpful to the responder who initiated this move.

The giving of fat envelopes and payment of “Soli” or transport for attending such events appear to have been normalized in Ghana. But it is our money. It must therefore not prevent any media practitioner worth his or her salt from asking questions that demands accountability and subject leaders to strict proof.

We would be listening with great interest and attention. We would also be watching and assessing the caliber of people selected to attend the event and the quality of questions they would be posing to DMB. But for the sake of mother Ghana, we must truly wish DMB and the media well in this historic engagement, particularly because, generllay in governance all over the world, those who have been part of the hardships of the ordinary citizenry would shun such engagements.
