The university of Ghana Student Representative Council under the Naadu led administration has published list of appointees to head the various committees of the Student Representative council. Following the release of the flyers detailing the various appointees, students across major WhatsApp platforms have expressed mixed reactions to the appointments with some calling it a “family and friends” appointment.

Among the various appointees, students have raised concerns on the competency of the newly appointed head of the UGSRC Scholarship committee. The appointment which was released
today, saw Doxline S.B.Koomson, a level 200 Public administration student appointed to Head the Scholarships committee of the SRC. While some students believe her appointment was in the right direction, other students have lamented the appointment arguing that there are more experienced people who could chair such a crucial committee.

“I believe in process, who trains on the battle field? There are other spots in the SRC where she can equally start from, probably being a member of the committee will even be best. The fate of our SRC is just a tip toe away from total failure , why then should we prioritize amateurs over tried and tested experienced people knowing well that this year's SRC election issues have already wasted almost half of the service rendering period.” One of the students bemoaned.

On the other hand, some students are of the view that leadership is a training ground and that the failure of the new appointee by no means affect the members of the student body.

“Some tried and tested people can still be failures, she’d been bet on, we expect her to give her best, leadership is a training ground in itself, you need to know where you’re going, with or without experience you give your best shot. If she fails, it’s on her, not you” she opined.

Meanwhile, many students have tried to label the current appointees as being members of the campaign team of the general secretary of the SRC who is now the acting SRC President.

The Student representative council of the University of Ghana has since the 2019/2020 academic year gone through very turbulent times. In the wake of Covid-19, the Union had to rely on an Acting President to run it affairs for the 2020/2021 academic year. Following the impasse which bedeviled the electoral process in the just ended UGSRC elections, the Student Representative council is currently under the leadership of an acting President 2021/2021 academic year while the two main candidates in the elections continue to battle at court of the outcome of the elections. Students and other stake holders are worried about these recent happenings in the SRC.
